Benefits of Pressure Washing Your House
Pressure washing the exterior of your home
Harsh northern winters can cause a build-up of mildew, soot, dirt, and grime on your home’s exterior. Pressure washing can get rid of unsightly stains and build-up to restore a cleaner, fresher look to stucco, aluminum siding, wood, and brick surfaces. Pressure washing can be performed annually for general upkeep and maintenance; plus it’s also a great way to prepare an exterior for painting.
How often should I pressure wash the exterior of my home?
You may pressure wash the exterior of your home annually or more or less often as it needs. For the northern climate, we recommend annual pressure washing of the exterior of the building.
What is involved in pressure washing the exterior of my home?
Choose a mild day in spring or summer. Avoid hot summer days as the cleaning agent can dry before you’re done rinsing. We use a good, professional cleaning agent. Use a ladder to access higher locations and follow safe work procedures. Be careful not to use too high of pressure as this can damage siding.
Other considerations?
The task of pressure washing takes some skill, consider using a professional company to tackle this job for you. Spraying too aggressively can easily damage siding and/or paint, plus pressure washing is not recommended for hardboard or stucco. It’s physically demanding too! You will need to do some serious scrubbing; especially if it’s been a long time since the last pressure wash.
Follow all safety measures to avoid personal injury (if your home is higher than one story, you may be best advised to hire a pro for the job).Hiring someone to pressure wash your home is an option if you don’t have time or are not comfortable on ladders or with high physical exertion. You can expect to spend anywhere around 60-90 cents per square foot for this service. It will cost more if you live in a two- or three-story home or if there’s lots of excess grime. Be sure to check that your contractor has proper work safe insurance and liability insurance as well as current fall protection training for their employees.
